Open Classes

These classes include settling in and awareness, gentle warm up, followed by both static postures and sequences designed to build strength, release tension and help to settle the mind so that we can enjoy pranayama, meditation and yoga nidra.

Building on the foundations, each term a new theme/s and sequences are offered in line with the seasons, yoga philosophy, muscle groups or any other focal motif. The
carefully thought out sequences bring movement and focus together to create balance and stability, both in the body and mind. The classes are designed in such a way as
to reach every level of your being: physical, energetical, mental, emotional and spiritual. Over time these classes help you nurture a greater sense of self-awareness and develop a sense of satisfaction as you feel your practice evolve. Variations, modifications and the use of props are regularly offered as the classes are intended to suit varying degrees of abilities and needs.

ForLifeYoga®
Chair Yoga + Otago

ForLifeYoga® Programme was designed by The Traditional Yoga Association® to specifically offer all aspects of Yoga ~ including its physical and philosophical aspects ~ to the fastest growing demographic of those aged 65 years and over. It is also suitable for persons with limited mobility or anyone who would like to try yoga in a gentle way. The aim is to make movement accessible and effective as well as make use of the many benefits yoga provides.

Along with the specially chosen and adapted yoga asanas (postures), done seated on a chair or standing (or even on a mat if that is accessible to participants) the classes incorporate the OTAGO Exercise Programme. This evidence-based training programme is designed to improve balance and prevent falls, a major cause of injury as we age. Research has shown that OEP is the leading falls prevention programme. In addition to this, the classes offer the Yoga breathing exercises that are suitable for people of 65+ . Also included are the meditation and mindfulness practices that have demonstrated their ability to assist with issues like stress, anxiety, depression and mild cognitive impairment.

The classes run in 6 week blocks, term time:
Thursdays, 10.30am-11.30am
Charvil Village Hall
100 The Hawthorns, Charvil, Reading

Menopause Yoga
& Wellbeing™

As a graduate of Menopause Yoga™ , the world's 1st professionally accredited yoga and wellbeing programme supporting people through their menopause and beyond, I am thrilled to offer you these workshops and classes.

MY™ is a specially designed programme to support women on the Menopause Journey, to help them manage their menopause
symptoms and their mindset. The workshops and classes include specially adapted yoga poses, breathing techniques and meditation as well as restorative and yin yoga to help ease some of the menopause symptoms such as anxiety, overwhelm, brain fog, insomnia, fatigue, hot flushes and irritability, joint and muscle pain.

Also included is the modified yoga for post menopause to
help build balance, muscle strength and heart health to help counter the risks of osteoporosis, sarcopenia muscle loss and cardio vascular disease. At the end of the workshops or classes,
you will have gained practical tools to implement whenever/wherever you need them.

This programme offers an opportunity to reframe the Menopause as the Second Spring and find support through women’s circles where thoughts and emotions can be shared in safe and supportive space.

MY™ is not a magic pill and does not claim to cure medical conditions or rebalance your hormones that fluctuate and decline in the menopause but yoga is scientifically proven to reduce stress and inflammation, which exacerbates many menopause symptoms. It can also help with sleep, digestion, fatigue, general mental health and may help prevent falls and fractures by developing posture, balance (proprioception), inner sensory awareness (interception) and muscle tone.

The programme was created by Petra Coveney - the founder of Menopause Yoga and author of Menopause Yoga - A Holistic Guide To Supporting Women On Their Menopause Journey,
